Why is physical fitness so important?

Physical fitness helps to boost the immune system and to prevent or reduce certain heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity. It is also known to reduce the effects of such mental health-related ailments including depression and anxiety. It’s a great way for many people to boost their self-esteem and body image. There are just so many proven benefits to staying physically fit and active.

Described below are a few important types of fitness regimens that will help target different areas of your body. Here are a few them:

Aerobic Fitness

Aerobic fitness is also known as cardio or endurance activity. It causes an increase in your breathing which maximizes the amount of oxygen going into your blood. This type of exercise includes any physical activity that uses your large muscle groups. This would include walking, running, dancing, and biking. You should aim to do about 2-3 hours of aerobic fitness per week to help maintain a healthy balance.

Strength Training

This type of activity is also referred to as muscular fitness training. It helps to increase bone and muscle strength. You can go to a gym and utilize exercise equipment or you can do it in the comforts of your own home. Handheld weights and resistance bands are both great ways to strengthen your muscles. You can also do a variety of muscle building excerises such as push-ups, crunches, and leg squats.

Core Training

This training focuses on the core; such as your abdomen and lower back. It targets all the muscles groups that stabilize your spine and pelvis. Strengthening your core is what is going to help your overall workouts because it allows you to use your upper and lower body more effectively. Invest in a medicine or stability ball to really help you focus on core work.

Stretching and Flexibility Training

This is great for increasing your overall range of motion and helps promote better posture. It is always important to stretch your muscles before doing any kind of workout. It will allow your muscles to become stretched to be able to better handle the physical exercise that you are about to begin. You will find that the more you stretch before and after your workout the better your muscles will feel.
